How much does a website cost in India?
The short answer
A website’s price follows its job. A few pages that introduce a business cost much less than a store that takes payments or a portal people log in to. The main drivers are the number of page types, custom or template design, a content editor your team can use, integrations such as payments, and a second language. After launch you keep paying for the domain, hosting, payment fees and maintenance.
Four kinds of website
- A brand site: a handful of pages that say who you are, what you offer and how to reach you.
- A content site: articles, resources or news your team adds often, so it needs a content editor (CMS).
- An online store: products, a cart, payments, delivery and order handling.
- A web app or portal: logins, dashboards and data for customers, members or staff.
Most projects are one of these with parts of another, such as a brand site with a members’ area.
What sets the price
- Page types, not page count. Fifty articles share one template; a home page, a product page and a checkout are three separate designs.
- Custom design or a template. A template is quicker to launch; a custom design is shaped around your brand and content.
- Content. Who writes the words and supplies the photos, and whether old content has to be moved across.
- A content editor (CMS), so your team can change pages, posts and products without a developer.
- Integrations: payments, bookings, WhatsApp, your CRM, email marketing and analytics.
- Languages. A second language adds design, content and testing work, and Arabic also needs right-to-left layouts.
- Speed, accessibility and search basics. These belong in the build, because they are harder to add later.
Costs after launch
- The domain, renewed every year.
- Hosting, which for a simple site can be small and for a store or portal grows with traffic and data.
- Payment fees on a store. Razorpay’s pricing page, for example, lists 2% per successful domestic payment plus GST on its standard plan, with no setup or annual fee.
- Maintenance: updates, backups, security fixes and small changes. Maintenance retainers.
- Marketing, if you want people to find the site through search, social or ads. Digital marketing.
Rebuilding a site you already have
If the old site already brings visitors from Google, a rebuild should list every existing address, redirect each one to its new page, and check page titles, canonical tags and the sitemap before launch. Skipping this can lose the search traffic you already have.
How we can help.
- We build brand sites, portals and online stores that take payment through Razorpay or Stripe, with a content editor your team can use. Websites and e-commerce.
- Before launch we check speed and accessibility, then hand over hosting, deploys and docs.
Questions people ask.
Is a WordPress or Shopify template cheaper than a custom build?
Usually, to start with. A custom build costs more up front and is shaped around your content and speed. Arteo had a slow WordPress site; we rebuilt it from its Figma design so it is fast and cheap to run. See the Arteo build.
Can our team update the website ourselves?
Yes, if it has a content editor (CMS). Itni Si Muskurahat Foundation’s team edits its site without a developer. See the build.
