Your website or app is ready and the last step is taking payments. Razorpay approval is mostly paperwork. This guide lists only what Razorpay's own documentation asks for, by type of business, so you can collect everything before you start.

We checked every point against Razorpay's documentation on 27 October 2026. Razorpay changes its requirements from time to time, so if the activation form in your dashboard asks for something different, the dashboard wins.

Before you start

  • Same person on PAN and address proof. The PAN and the address proof of the authorised signatory must belong to the same person.
  • Razorpay fetches what it can. It first tries Central KYC (CKYC). For an individual it uses your PAN and a one-time password sent to the mobile number linked to your CKYC record (usually your Aadhaar mobile). For a registered business it uses the business PAN and date of incorporation, and checks the authorised signatory's own CKYC separately. If that works, you upload very little.
  • If the CKYC lookup fails, you share Aadhaar through DigiLocker or upload an address proof, and the authorised signatory must complete a video KYC call with Razorpay, showing the original physical PAN card (not an e-PAN or a printout). DigiLocker has to be finished within 3 days of the call.
  • Bank account check. Razorpay sends ₹1 to your account to confirm it. Only if that fails will it ask for a video of a cancelled cheque or a letter or email from your branch manager.
  • GST and a current account are not mandatory, according to Razorpay's FAQ.

Extra documents by type of business

Pick your type of business. Everything in the table above still applies.

Type of business

Not registered yet (freelancers and early businesses)

Nothing beyond the table above: your personal PAN, the mobile number linked to your CKYC record, an address proof and your bank details. If the CKYC lookup fails, Razorpay asks you to complete a video KYC call, so keep your physical PAN and Aadhaar ready.

Trust, society or Section 8 company

Trusts send the trust deed or the gazette notification that set up the trust, plus the registration certificate if registered. Societies send their registration certificate. Both add the entity PAN and the authorised signatory's PAN and address proof, and a power of attorney, which Razorpay's KYC documents page lists as mandatory for both. Razorpay may also ask a trust for its 12A/80G or 10AC income tax registration. Section 8 companies follow the company list above. Beneficial owners are everyone holding 10% or more in a trust, and more than 15% in a society.

Depending on your line of business, Razorpay may also ask for a licence, for example FSSAI for food, SEBI registration for stock market advisory or IRDAI for insurance.

Pages your website needs

You must give Razorpay your live website or app before it issues live keys. For a website it asks for links to these pages and runs automatic checks on the site, the policy pages and your business category:

  • About us
  • Contact us
  • Pricing
  • Terms and conditions
  • Privacy policy
  • Refund policy

For a website it also asks for a sample invoice (PNG, JPG or PDF), and test login details if customers must sign in to pay. For an app it asks only for the app link and test login details if needed. Until your site is live, you can still take payments through Razorpay Payment Links and Invoices.

If you change your brand name later, Razorpay only accepts one that is at least 80% similar to your company name or domain name. It shows on Razorpay's checkout and in the payment and refund emails your customers receive.

How long it takes

Activation depends on approval from Razorpay's banking partners. When the CKYC lookup matches, it can take minutes. Without a CKYC match, Razorpay's FAQ says its team reviews your submission in 3 to 4 business days.

Before your first real payment

You can build and test the whole checkout in test mode before activation. Before switching to live, check these:

Settlements reach your bank on a T+2 working day cycle by default for domestic payments.
