Your website or app is ready and the last step is taking payments. This guide lists what Cashfree's own documentation asks for, by type of business, so you can collect everything before you start. Where we add our own advice, we say so.
We checked every point against Cashfree's documentation on 27 October 2026. Cashfree changes its requirements from time to time, so if the onboarding form in your dashboard asks for something different, the dashboard wins.
Before you start
- Your website shows your legal name. Cashfree checks that the business name on your site matches the one on your registration documents.
- Much of it is prefilled. Cashfree uses your business PAN to fetch your legal name and your GST, CIN or LLPIN details.
- Identity checks happen online. The business owner or authorised signatory is verified through Aadhaar OTP, Central KYC (CKYC) or DigiLocker. If none of these works, Cashfree accepts a certified copy of a passport, voter ID or driving licence.
- Video KYC only when needed. Cashfree asks for a video KYC call if its extra checks (Enhanced Due Diligence) fail, or if documents are still needed after them. Once it is asked for, you cannot submit the form until it is done.
- GST is optional. Cashfree's FAQ says a GSTIN is not mandatory for activation.
Documents every business needs
| Document | What to know |
|---|---|
| PAN | The business PAN. Proprietors use their personal PAN |
| Bank account | Account number and IFSC, verified in the dashboard. Individuals and proprietors need an account in the business owner's name |
| Identity of the signatory | The business owner, or the person who will operate the account. Aadhaar or PAN, verified as above |
| Business address | Your principal place of business, which is subject to physical verification |
| Beneficial owners | Everyone holding more than 10% of a company, partnership or LLP, more than 15% of a society, or 10% or more of a trust. The list is locked once you confirm it. To fix a mistake, ask your account manager to have Cashfree reset the step |
Extra documents by type of business
Pick your type of business. Everything in the table above still applies.
What your website needs
You need a live website, or an app published on the Play Store or App Store. Cashfree's onboarding FAQ lists these as mandatory for activation:
- About us
- Contact us, with one email address and a valid phone number
- Terms and conditions
- Privacy policy
- Your registered business name
Depending on your business model, it also lists a refund or return policy, a shipping and delivery policy, your products or services, and pricing.
Before you can take live payments on your domain, you whitelist it. For that Cashfree looks for Contact us, Terms and conditions, and Refunds and cancellations pages, your products or services listed, and prices in Indian rupees. Only https:// addresses are accepted. For an app, give its official Play Store or App Store listing link. Cashfree can also hold your settlements if required policy pages, such as the privacy, refund and terms pages, are missing.
Extra steps for some products
| If you want | What Cashfree asks for |
|---|---|
| UPI AutoPay subscriptions | Not self-serve: request it from your account manager or the support form. To charge more than ₹15,000, you also request Additional Factor Authentication through the support form |
| Payouts | Your website address and business PAN. Live payout calls need your server's IP whitelisted or a signed request |
| International payments (Global Collections) | Registered businesses in India only. Cashfree reviews your documents first, typically in 24 to 48 hours, and contacts you if it needs more |
| Some business categories | Documents for your line of business, for example an FSSAI licence for food, health and beauty supplements, a pharmacy licence and drug licence for a pharmacy, or a UGC, CBSE, ICSE or AICTE certificate for schools and colleges |
How long it takes
Cashfree says accounts are typically activated within 24 working hours of submitting all documents, subject to compliance verification. Its onboarding FAQ gives 24 to 48 working hours after document verification. Most domain whitelisting requests are approved within 24 hours.
Before your first real payment
You can test Cashfree's products and simulate payment scenarios in its sandbox before activation. Before switching to live, check these. The first three come from Cashfree's documentation; the last three are our own advice:
By default, Cashfree settles on a T+2 cycle: two business days after the transaction. Cashfree says the cycle is subject to bank approval and can vary.
